We are thrilled to announce the launch of our completely redesigned SharePoint On-Premises solution for AgilePoint which is compatible with Microsoft recommended SharePoint Workflow Manager.
Why is this important Milestone?
We understand how essential SharePoint is to our customers, and we remain closely aligned with Microsoft’s product roadmap. Couple of years back, Microsoft announced that the SharePoint 2019 extended support is coming to an end and it is recommended that all customers should move to SharePoint Subscription Edition. However, there are few of the SharePoint services which will be deprecated in SharePoint Subscription Edition. The key ones being Microsoft Workflow Manager, SharePoint 2010 Workflows, InfoPath Form Services and SharePoint Designer 2013. But don’t worry—we’ve got your back! Check out our earlier summary and impact analysis to stay informed.
To ensure continuity, AgilePoint has introduced a redesigned solution that replaces reliance on SharePoint’s native workflows (SharePoint 2010 workflows) with SharePoint Workflow Manager.
Our Commitment to Future-Proofing Your Investments
We are dedicated to safeguarding your applications and platforms against future changes. Our innovative architectural approach ensures that your processes and forms remain unaffected when SharePoint undergoes upgrades, protecting your application development investment. And of course, that goes for all AgilePoint upgrades as well. In fact, as you probably already know, this is one of the main reasons why Enterprises choose AgilePoint, to avoid costly app restructuring that robs you of your valuable time and resources.
Who Does This Apply To?
All customers using AgilePoint’s SharePoint On-Premises solution to trigger a workflow on AgilePoint NX v6.0 – v9.0.
What is the impact on existing AgilePoint workflows for SharePoint OnPremises?
- Minimal disruption: Existing features are fully carried forward. No changes required to your AgilePoint apps.
- Minor UI refresh: App designers and SharePoint admins will see only small changes in workflow association dialog which shows up in SharePoint.
- Future-ready design: Workflows launcher now uses SharePoint Workflow Manager, ensuring resilience against deprecations.
By design, our dependency on the SharePoint app was very limited. For AgilePoint’s own product modules such as Work Center, Process Viewer or eForms which are rendered in SharePoint OnPremises, there is no impact. This is because the SharePoint solution does the base user interface rendering of the page which loads these modules dynamically from AgilePoint. This is why you can see same form or Work Center experience whether you access it from AgilePoint NX Portal, SharePoint, Salesforce, or any other system for that matter.
All that investment we have done in the product remains intact. AgilePoint’s use of SharePoint’s native workflow is only limited to one single step which acts as an event listener. We use it to listen to events such as item added or document uploaded to call our REST endpoint to kick off a business process in AgilePoint. That’s it! This has been migrated over to Microsoft recommended SharePoint Workflow Manager using SharePoint 2013 styled workflows.
Which features from the older SharePoint solution for OnPremises have been deprecated?
No major feature has been deprecated – and you can still kickoff workflow based on item added or item changed events, as well as override the out of the box SharePoint Listforms experience, which covers all of your SharePoint forms and workflow customization. The only feature which are not supported in the new SharePoint workflow solution are:
– Classic Work Center which was deprecated in AgilePoint NX v9 and has been replaced by Modern Work Center.
– InfoPath support has been removed by Microsoft.
What is AgilePoint’s plan to migrate existing customers from older app to the new app?
If you are an existing AgilePoint customer, our Professional Services team will work with you to migrate configuration of your SharePoint environment to the new SharePoint solution files. The older solution components (workflow status screen, workflow association dialog, AgilePoint workflow launcher) will be replaced with the new redesigned workflow association screen and SharePoint Workflow manager as the AgilePoint workflow launcher.
A simple, one-time migration is required to port your running process instance status link, workflow associations, and form association information. This does not require any changes to your published AgilePoint apps and is a minor change to copy the SharePoint side of configuration to the new solution. To make this transition smooth, our team will use an automated migration utility available on a per site collection basis.
Which version of AgilePoint do I need to be on to use the new SharePoint solution?
The redesigned solution requires AgilePoint NX v9 Software Update 1.1 and above. Customers on earlier versions are encouraged to plan their upgrade.
